Coverage of conservation and ecology issues in today’s media are probably more affected by national and local politics than most of us probably realize. You hear about what’s trendy, what’s interesting, or what’s bankrolled.
That said, getting food on the table is probably a more pressing issue for most families than is the health of Chinese rivers. The country’s policies on how we approach issues as diverse as soil health, ecosystem conservation, energy issues and wildlife conservation should, I believe, take the long view. The more efficiently we protect our natural resources, the more there will be to go around, for everyone around the globe.
A victim of the economic slaughterhouse, I was laid off from my job as an economic reporter last year — which turned out to be one of the best things to have ever happened to me. When I’m not trying to figure out what my infant son needs, I’m reading, writing, trying to think of questions and digging into a subject that really hooks me: environmental science and conservation issues.
3 cheers for motivational tools!
hey, thanks for reading
even though it’s sort of half-assed, it kind of scratches my journalism itch.
Mo-mo………keep thinking about those questions.
hey, i didn’t know you were doing this…very nice! i should link you into some of the uk stuff…
I am really impressed! This is so well done! I love that you have started it up and have a forum for your talents… writing, asking questions, finding the facts. Awesome! I will be checking in!
Hey, thanks so much for reading!! This blog helps scratch an itch, so to speak, even though I’m not getting paid and can’t do it as often as I’d like to — stuff can be unpredictable around here! But, when I get some spare time, I try to squeeze in some reading and research … but it’s kind of like working for a tiny newswire — no way to possibly keep up with everything I’d like to. In the meantime, though, at least I’m learning and writing… so I’m glad people are finding it (through shameless self promotion! ha!) and seeming to enjoy it, so far.
How’s life with you? Hope all is well still at Bloomberg??
Glad you found it
I try to keep it up when I can, not as often as I’d like, but it’s something…
Hi Michelle, I was just wondering where you got the aerial photo for http://michelledonahue.wordpress.com/2009/03/28/will-proposed-septic-tank-law-finally-put-some-teeth-in-chesapeake-protection/ and if I can use it? Can you point me in the direction? Couldn’t find an email to send this under wraps. Thanks for any help! I am hoping to use it for a brochure. It’s a gorgeous shot.
